Use of Short Breaks Capital Funds for New Changing Places Toilets

CHANGING PLACES TOILETS IN BRISTOL

Children and young people that require specialist toilet/changing facilities and their families are very restricted in what they are able to do in Bristol, and its outskirts. Bristol Parent Carers surveyed the available “Changing Places” toilets – ones that include an adjustable bench and hoist, so that it is easier for families to plan their time out around Bristol.

We have developed an interactive map – found here, where you can see the facilities open during the day – please check the opening hours, some are limited. You will also see a moon symbol whenever a venue us open during the day and at night – please check, evening opening is very limited. The map will show you the location, opening hours, and a contact phone number.

The Managers of all these sites have been contacted and assure us that they will allow access by passing families. To discover the facilities available at each site, see the summary tables attached, sorted by area:

East Bristol  North & NW Bristol  Central Bristol
South Bristol Outskirts of Bristol

This information will be updated regularly, so please check here regularly – please provide feedback if you find any mistakes / or any new premises.

Once you know where you are going, you can sometimes find pictures if you search for the place on the DisabledGo Access Guide.

The Changing Places toilet availability at weekends and in the evening is very limited; and even during the day, not many toilets are in places where you want to go out and about with your family for a fun break. So BPC has used the survey information to request Bristol City Council to help. They have agreed to use some of the Short Breaks Capital funding to install some more Changing Places toilets in useful places. We will update you as this work is planned/undertaken.
