SUMMARY:Supporting Young People with Tics and Tourette Syndrome
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we discuss helping our young people with tics and Tourette syndrome feel supported and understood\n\n\nWelcome to Supporting Young People with Tics and Tourette Syndrome \nJoin Bristol Parent Carers and Lucy Toghill on Monday 8th June at 7pm. \nThis session is specifically designed for parent carers of young people who are either in the process of seeking a Tourette diagnosis or already have one. \nThis session provides essential information\, insights\, and actionable steps to help you navigate this journey with confidence\, offering a deeper understanding of Tics and Tourette and equipping caregivers with the tools and knowledge to support their child’s ongoing needs \nThis session will be recorded so we can share it with other families afterwards\, and so you can revisit it yourself at a later date. Recordings are securely stored and will be available for 60 days. \nIn this session\, we will cover: \n\nUnderstanding Tics \nWhen do Tics typically start? \nWhat can they look like? \nThe Experience of Tics: What it feels like to have tics\, from the perspective of those who experience them \nTic Disorders: Overview of different tic disorders and how they differ from each other \nCo-occurring Conditions: Commonly associated conditions such as ADHD\, OCD\, and anxiety \nThe Diagnosis Process: What to expect and how to prepare for medical appointments \nSupport Strategies: Practical tips for managing tics at school and how to create a supportive home environment\nInfluencing Factors: What can increase or decrease tics and identifying potential triggers \nThe Importance of Education: Educating the child’s circle of support (family\, friends\, school staff) to foster understanding and inclusion \nTherapies and Treatment Options: Overview of available therapies\, interventions\, and management strategies \nFuture Outlook: What to expect as your child grows and develops\, and how to prepare for the future \nAvailable Resources: Where to seek help and support and how our charity can assist you during this journey \nQ&A Session: An opportunity to ask questions and gain tailored advice\n\nPlaces are free\, but if you’re able to make a small donation to help us continue offering free sessions to as many families as possible\, we’d be incredibly grateful. \n*Please note\, to attend this session for free you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area. You must also have a child with Special Educational Needs\, but they do not need to have a diagnosis.
