SUMMARY:Helping Autistic Children Cope with Christmas and Other Big Events
DESCRIPTION:Learn practical strategies to help your child manage routines\, sensory needs and expectations over Christmas.\n\n\nChristmas and special occasions can bring excitement as well as challenges. Learn practical strategies to help your child manage changes to routines\, expectations and sensory demands during busy times of year. \nIn this session\, you will: \n\n Understand why celebrations can be challenging.\n Learn practical preparation strategies.\n Explore ways to reduce stress and sensory overload.\n Build confidence for special events.\n\nWho is this session for? \nParent carers of autistic children and young people\,  \nAbout the trainer: \nMy name is Hats Darley\, & I’m autistic & ADHD. \nI deliver training on all things autism & neurodiversity\, including training for NHS and social care staff on autism.  As well as AuDHD\, my interest areas are: executive functioning\, neurodiversity in women and girls\, and health co-occurring conditions. \nAbout Bristol Parent Carers: \n \nThis session is part of Bristol Parent Carers’ free programme of information sessions for parent carers of children and young people with SEND or emerging additional needs.  \nPlaces are free\, but if you’re able to make a small donation to help us continue offering free sessions to as many families as possible\, we’d be incredibly grateful.  \nTo attend this session for free you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area. You must also have a child with Special Educational Needs\, but they do not need to have a diagnosis. \nWhen you book\, we’ll ask you 3–5 quick questions related to the session topic. For example\, if you’re booking an EHCP session\, the questions will be about EHCPs. \nYour anonymous responses help Bristol Parent Carers and local partners understand families’ experiences\, identify common challenges\, and improve support and services. \n*Please note*: to attend this session for free you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area.
