SUMMARY:Neurodiversity without a diagnosis
DESCRIPTION:Navigating supporting your neurodivergent child without a diagnosis\n\n\nWelcome to Neurodiversity without a diagnosis. Join Bristol Parent Carers and Paul Ford on 28th September at 7pm. Many children experience differences in the way they think\, communicate\, learn and respond to the world around them\, but not every child has a diagnosis. Some families may be waiting for an assessment\, while others may simply recognise that their child experiences the world differently. This practical and supportive session is for parents and carers of children who may be autistic\, have ADHD\, or present with other neurodivergent differences\, regardless of whether they have a diagnosis. \nThis session will be recorded so we can share it with other families afterwards\, and so you can revisit it yourself at a later date. Recordings are securely stored and will be available for 60 days.In this session we will cover: \n\nLearn why a diagnosis can be helpful\, but why understanding your child’s needs is even more important\nUnderstand common characteristics of autism\, ADHD and other forms of neurodivergent needs\, and how these may present differently from one child to another\nDevelop and understanding of sensory differences\, communication styles and executive functioning which can influence behaviour\, emotions and everyday life\nLearn practical strategies to reduce stress\, support emotional regulation and build on your child’s strengths\nFind ways to work positively with schools and other professionals\, even before a diagnosis is in place.\n\nWhether your child is on a waiting list for assessment\, has recently been referred\, or you simply recognise traits of neurodivergence and are looking for a better understanding\, this session aims to provide reassurance\, practical ideas and greater confidence in supporting your child. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout the session\, making it relevant to your own family’s experiences. \nPlaces are free\, but if you’re able to make a small donation to help us continue offering free sessions to as many families as possible\, we’d be incredibly grateful.*Please note\, to attend this session for free you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area. SUMMARY:Re-filling their cup: Responding to the early signs of burnout in neurodivergent girls and gender non-conforming young people at mainstream school by making home a restorative space
DESCRIPTION:Understand the early signs of school burnout in neurodivergent girls\n\n\nAn affirming awareness session centred on the lived experience of adults and run by NeonDaisy’s neurodivergent mentors. Explores how and why neurodivergent girls often feel distressed at school for a long time before it surfaces seemingly out of nowhere as burnout. What this can feel like inside\, and the subtle early signs. Tips to help offset the depleting effect of school distress at home by: replenishing their self-esteem\, sense of identity and autonomy; building their self-advocacy and boundary-setting skills; and how to be an affirming role model as a parent/carer\, even when things are hard. There will be a focus on young people in Year 5 to Year 8 who are still attending school to some degree\, and are not yet in burnout. \nIn this session\, you will: \n\nUnderstand why neurodivergent girls may become distressed at school.\nRecognise the early signs of school burnout.\nLearn practical ways to support wellbeing at home.\nBuild confidence in supporting self-esteem and self-advocacy.\n\nWho is this session for? \nParent carers of girls who are autistic or may be autistic. \nAbout the trainer: \nNeonDaisy provides a joyful community for neurodivergent girls and gender non-conforming young people (Daisies)\, where they have the power to shape their own life story. \nWe build an affirming world around them\, whether that’s through our in-person groups and community-created publications directly for young people\, or our work with parents & educators. \nOur lived experience approach is Daisy-designed so young people feel greater belonging\, better connected and more confident as they transition into adult life. \nAbout Bristol Parent Carers: \n \nThis session is part of Bristol Parent Carers’ free programme of information sessions for parent carers of children and young people with SEND or emerging additional needs. \nPlaces are free\, but if you’re able to make a small donation to help us continue offering free sessions to as many families as possible\, we’d be incredibly grateful. \nTo attend this session for free you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area.
