SUMMARY:Social Care Rights for Children and Young People with SEND
DESCRIPTION:Understand social care support\, assessments\, eligibility and your family's rights for children and young people with SEND.\n\n\nLearn about social care support for children and young people with SEND\, including assessments\, eligibility and your family’s rights. Understand what support may be available and how to request it. \nIn this session\, you will: \n\n Understand social care rights.\n Learn about assessments and eligibility.\n Explore available support.\n Know how to request help.\n\nWho is this session for? \nParent carers of children and young people with SEND. \nAbout the trainer: \nLuke Clements is the Emeritus Professor of Law & Social Justice at the School of Law Leeds University. He was involved in the drafting of the Bills that became the Carers (Recognition and Services) Act 1995 and the Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004\, as well as acting as the expert adviser to the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee scrutinising the Bill that resulted in the Care Act 2014. \nMost recently\, Luke’s work on the rights of disabled children and their families has been much cited in the Law Commission’s proposals for the reform of children’s social care law. \nLuke has written widely\, including Disabled Children: a legal handbook (Legal Action Group 3rd ed 2020 – jointly written with Stephen Broach KC). A brief biographical note is at https://www.lukeclements.co.uk/ \n \nAbout Bristol Parent Carers: \n \nThis session is part of Bristol Parent Carers’ free programme of information sessions for parent carers of children and young people with SEND or emerging additional needs. \nPlaces are free\, but if you’re able to make a small donation to help us continue offering free sessions to as many families as possible\, we’d be incredibly grateful. \nTo attend this session for free you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area. You must also have a child with Special Educational Needs\, but they do not need to have a diagnosis. \nWhen you book\, we’ll ask you 3–5 quick questions related to the session topic. For example\, if you’re booking an EHCP session\, the questions will be about EHCPs. \nYour anonymous responses help Bristol Parent Carers and local partners understand families’ experiences\, identify common challenges\, and improve support and services. \n*Please note*: to attend this session for free you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area. You must also have a child with Special Educational Needs\, but they do not need to have a diagnosis.
