SUMMARY:Home to School Travel and Independent Travel Training Explained
DESCRIPTION:Join Bristol Parent Carers and Bristol City Council as we discuss Home to School Travel and Independent Travel Training\n\n\nThis session explains how both home to school transport and independent travel training works in Bristol\, what support may be available\, and how families can navigate the process with confidence. We’ll talk through the application journey step by step\, explain who does what\, and share practical tips for avoiding common problems. \nThe focus is on clarity\, not jargon – so families know what to expect\, where to go for help\, and what to do if things don’t go to plan. \nThis session is suitable for parent carers\, schools\, colleges\, and professionals supporting young people who either are using or will be new to the home to school transport service. \nIn this session we will cover \n\nWho is responsible for transport decisions and delivery\nThe difference between eligibility\, discretion and appeals\nThe main service providers involved in transport\nWho travel training is for\nHow to apply\, what forms are used\, and when to apply\nWhat to do if transport is delayed\, refused\, or not working\nWho to contact if there are problems or concerns\nHow post-16 home to school transport works in Bristol\nWe’ll also share common issues families experience and what tends to help resolve them.\n\nPlaces are free\, but if you’re able to make a small donation to help us continue offering free sessions to as many families as possible\, we’d be incredibly grateful. \n*Please note\, to attend this session for free you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area. SUMMARY:SEND Community session with BPC and MCT | East Bristol
DESCRIPTION:East Bristol SEND Global Majority Session\n\n\nWe’re delighted to host our friendly\, monthly SEND Community Session in partnership with Murmuration Community Therapy in East Bristol — a welcoming\, relaxed space for parent carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to connect\, unwind and feel supported. \nWhether you’re looking for a moment of calm\, and hoping to meet others who truly get it\, you’ll be met with warmth\, understanding and a community that’s here for you. \nAlthough the atmosphere is relaxed and informal\, we do ask that families book a free place via Eventbrite so we can manage numbers and make sure the space is comfortable for everyone. We also know that life as a SEND parent or carer can be unpredictable — if you book and then can’t make it\, please don’t worry. You’re always welcome to join us next time. \nAt each session\, our reps and other local families will be on hand for supportive conversation\, whether you’d like to chat about challenges\, share experiences\, or simply enjoy a quiet moment with others who understand. \nYou’ll often also find other local services joining us\, offering everything from carer support advice to information about events and opportunities in the area.

SUMMARY:Supporting Healthy Relationships and Sex Education in SEND
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we discuss how to support your child or young person with sex education and relationships.\n\n\nWelcome to Supporting Healthy Relationships and Sex Education for Children and Young People with SEND \nJoin Bristol Parent Carers and Alice Hoyle from Sense and Connect on Thursday 26th March at 7PM. \nTalking about sex and relationships can feel uncomfortable\, especially when supporting a child or young person with SEND. Many parent carers worry about when to start\, what to say\, or how to keep their child safe while still respecting their growing independence. \nThis session will explore how to talk openly and positively about healthy relationships\, consent\, boundaries\, and growing up. We will look at the evidence for why this topic is essential\, how to support your child to understand their own feelings and bodies\, and what to do if things feel confusing or go wrong. The focus is on reassurance\, confidence building\, and giving you practical tools you can use at home. \nThis session will not be recorded. \nIn this session\, we will cover: \n\nApproaches for talking about bodies\, relationships\, consent and sex.\nHow to offer age and stage appropriate information that takes into account developmental needs.\nRecognising signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships and how to support your Child or young person to understand these.\nWhere to find further resources and support if you need more guidance.\n\nPlaces are free\, but if you’re able to make a small donation to help us continue offering free sessions to as many families as possible\, we’d be incredibly grateful. \n*Please note\, to attend this session for free\, you must live in Bristol (your bin will be collected by Bristol City Council)\, or your child must attend a school in the Bristol city area. You must also have a child with Special Educational Needs\, but they do not need to have a diagnosis.

SUMMARY:Redmaids' High School GDST | SEND Coffee Morning | School families only
DESCRIPTION:Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coffee Mornings for parents and carers of children with SEND\n\n\nBristol Parent Carer Forum hosts coffee mornings from schools for parent carers of children and young adults that have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). \nThere is no need to book but if you can\, that is helpful. Please come along for a chat with our volunteers and other families who “get it”. We are happy to talk through any problems or issues you are facing over a nice cup of tea (or coffee!) and you can find out more information on what support is available locally for your child or a child you care for. \nIf you need additional support to access this coffee morning such as support with English or other adjustments\, please let us know. \nAn important role of the Parent Carer Forum is to hear about the experiences of parent carers in Bristol. We would like to hear from you about your experiences with SEND services so that we can be sure that your voice is heard and that we can shape the future of SEND services together.
