Take action

Get involved in Learning Disability Week 2015 - Learning Disability Week is taking place from 15 – 21 June this year and it would be brilliant if you and your group/service could get involved. We want to use the week to raise awareness of learning disability and to give people with learning disabilities a platform to make their voices heard. To help groups to do this, Mencap have created a Raising Awareness Resource Pack full of tips, ideas and advice. You can find the pack here: https://www.mencap.org.uk/ldwresources

Cast your vote for community projects - The Aviva Community Fund offers support and funding to inspirational local projects in your community. Everyone who registers gets 10 votes. Here are some projects for people with learning disabilities which you might like to vote for:

Fill in a survey about local services - Contact a Family and the Every Disabled Child Matters (EDCM) campaign urgently need your help to build a national picture of where changes to services and support are happening and what impact this is having on families of disabled children. Attend an event

Book tickets for a fully accessible music festival - Fast Forward Festival is a new accessible music festival which will be taking place between Thursday 2 July and Friday 3 July 2015 at Colston Hall, Colston Street, Bristol, BS1 5AR. Featuring a flagship performance by The British Paraorchestra, the festival will also include a mixture of seminars, workshops and more, celebrating disabled arts and artists. Have a go at different sports - This year’s All Ability Sports Festival is taking place at Blackbridge Jubilee Athletics Track, Podsmead Road, Gloucester, GL2 5AB on Saturday 22 August 2015 (10.00am – 4.00pm). Entry is free and there will be the opportunity for people to take part in a virtual cycle tour of Gloucestershire. Pop into a Carers Week event - In celebration of Carers Week, Guideposts Trust are inviting local carers and cared-for people to a Carers’ Event at Nuneaton Co-op Club, Dugdale Street, Nuneaton, CV11 5QJ on Wednesday 10 June 2015 (11.00am – 2.00pm). The theme this year is ‘carer friendly communities’ and there will be information available about the support that is on offer locally. Share your views about the Care Act - Herefordshire Disability United are hosting a social care debate at Hinton Community Centre, 21 Ross Road, Hereford, HR2 7RJ on Wednesday 17 June 2015 (11.00am - 2.30pm) to enable people to have their say on the Care Act. Find service and activities

Get advice on education for children and young people - Sian Hughes has recently started working for Worcestershire County Council as a young person advisor within the SENDIASS team. As part of her role, she offers independent and impartial support on education to young people with special educational needs and disabilities in Worcestershire. Book an accessible holiday - Entrust Care Partnership are delighted to be able to offer a new Holiday Break Service to children and adults with learning disabilities and their families across Warwickshire and the West Midlands. They have disability-friendly caravans and a lodge available in three different destinations (Skegness, Burnham-on-Sea and Wicksteed Park) and they charge below commercial rates for these.
