Weston Warriors FC – new players welcome

Weston Warriors FC – new players welcome

Weston Warriors Ability Football Club plays in Weston-super-Mare and provides opportunities for males and females aged 16+ who have mental health issues, substance misuse problems, learning difficulties or use a wheel/power chair. The club welcomes all participants wanting to improve their health, volunteer or learn about disability challenges.

The club has now launched Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Nominations are now open for the 2015 West of England Celebration of Sport evening

The West of England Sport Trust’s (Wesport) Celebration of Sport Evening returns for 2015. The evening gives recognition to the achievements and successes of outstanding athletes, inspirational volunteers, great coaches and high quality clubs and organisations in the West of England.

This year’s event will be held on Friday 23 October at the Bristol Hotel, Bristol, hosted by Colin Jackson CBE, Olympic Silver Medallist and two-times World 110 meters hurdles champion.

Colin Jackson, said:
“I’m really looking forward to hosting this year’s West of England Celebration of Sport Evening in October and meeting some of the local grassroots sporting heroes. Don’t forget to get your nominations in now and you could be joining me for what promises to be a fantastic Celebration of Sport.”

Disability Gymnastics Taster Event

Free Disability Gymnastics Taster Event – this Saturday in Nailsea!

As part of British Gymnastics’ I’M IN Programme, Gemini Gymnastics Club is hosting a Free Disability Gymnastics Taster this Saturday 13 June 2015, from 1-4pm. The event will take place at the club’s fantastic gymnastics facility on Blackfriar’s Trading Estate, Nailsea, BS48 4DJ.

This taster event aims to introduce more disabled people of all impairments to the sport of gymnastics. Separate sessions will be offered for those aged 11+ and 18+ to try gymnastics for the very first time, free of charge. Participants need absolutely no experience of gymnastics; a wide range of fun activities will be on offer to help you get fit, experience a new sport and meet new friends. Families and friends are welcome to come along to the event –all abilities will be catered for.

Autism Independence supports families with disable (autism) children/young people from ethnic minorities including the Somali community to access services available. Communication is real barrier for these families.

Autism Independence promotes overcoming taboo and stigma of disabilities. We value the importance of creating an environment where parents network, socialise and support each other along with bringing together different communities and services.

We work with NHS, National Autistic Society and Bristol City Council.

Our aim is to integrate and empower disadvantage families.

You can get involve by coming to our monthly drop in sessions, and can contact us with your concerns.

Speakers include:

National Autistic Society, Early Bird Team, Social Service, Acta, Kids,
Special Friends, Bristol University and Contact A Family.

Snacks and finger food will be provided!

FREE for parents with children with additional needs
Lunch provided / refreshments.
Please note there are no crèche facilities, but babies/children can be brought if parents are respectful of other learners.
