Do you want to help parent carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to get the right support at the right time?
Bristol Parent Carers is a local charity that works with parent carers of children and young people (0-25 years) with SEND in Bristol. We aim to ensure that every parent carer in Bristol is supported through their SEND journey and empowered to understand and advocate for their child’s needs.
We do this by reaching out to parent carers at support sessions across Bristol, both in schools and the community, face to face and online.
We are currently recruiting for a Global Majority and North Bristol Peer Support Coordinator to facilitate peer support sessions. We’re searching for someone who can:
- Travel to and facilitate at least:
- Two coffee mornings per week; or
- One coffee morning and one evening event per week
- Facilitate up to two evening online training sessions per month (up to 3 hours each)
- Arrive at events at least 15 minutes prior to start time (earlier where room setup is required)
- Ensure all attendees are signed in to maintain accurate attendance records
- Ensure each coffee morning is fully equipped
- Complete post-event feedback and data gathering
- Build and maintain positive relationships with parent carers, schools, and community partners
- Ensure inclusive engagement approaches that enable diverse voices to be heard
Essential Experience
- Confident facilitating small group sessions, both in person and online
- Excellent organisational, communication and administrative skills
- Good IT skills, including email, online meeting platforms and standard office software
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Fluency in at least one additional community language (such as Somali, Arabic, Polish, Urdu or other widely spoken languages in Bristol)
- A strong working knowledge of local SEND offers and organisations
- Lived experience of raising or caring for a child with SEND
- Experience building relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to communicate clearly, warmly and professionally
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy and varied role
Desirable Experience
- Understanding of parent carer forums and the local SEND landscape
- Understanding of SEND law and practice
- Experience in using Eventbrite, Basecamp and Canva
- Experience delivering or supporting peer support or community-based sessions
- Knowledge of education, health and social care systems affecting children and young people with SEND

TERMS / CONDITIONS
Start Date: 20th AprilDuration of Contract: Temporary 1 year, Term Time Only contractProbationary Period: Six monthsSalary: £14 per hourHours of Work: This is a part-time role, 12 hours a week over 5 days during term time. You must be available to:- Travel to and facilitate at least two coffee mornings a week (between 8:30am and 12:30pm); or one coffee morning and one evening event (between 7pm and 9pm online)
- In addition, twice a month, you must be available for one morning between 9am and 12pm
- In addition, twice a term, you must be available between 9am and 12pm in person
