You Said, We Did: Changes to Our SEND Communications

We have been working with children, young people, families and partner organisations to review and improve our SEND communications.

We recently asked for feedback through Bristol Parent Carers on the phrase “Waiting Well”. This phrase was used to describe support available while families are waiting for assessments, decisions or services.

You Said

Parent carers told us that the phrase was not always clear and did not accurately explain what support was available during waiting periods.

Families asked for language that clearly explains what advice and support they can access while they are waiting.

Parent carers also highlighted the importance of clear information about available services, advice, resources, workshops, peer support and regular updates.

We Did

Following this feedback, we will now use “Support While Waiting” instead of “Waiting Well” in our SEND communications.

This change will be used when describing the information, advice and services available to children, young people and families during assessment and planning processes.

Existing documents containing the phrase “Waiting Well” are being reviewed and updated.

Thank You

Thank you to Bristol Parent Carers and the parent carers who shared their feedback. Their views have helped shape this change and will continue to inform how we communicate with children, young people and families.
