Self-employed encouraged to get ready to make their claims for coronavirus support

From Monday, HMRC are beginning to contact those self-employed people who may be eligible for government support through the Self-employment Income Support Scheme.

This scheme will enable you to claim a taxable grant worth 80% of your average trading profits up to a maximum of £7,500 (equivalent to three months’ profits), paid in a single installment.

You can also go online and check your eligibility for this scheme, please have your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) and your National Insurance Number to hand. Once the online check is complete, if you are eligible you will be given a date when you can submit your claim.

The claims service will open on Wednesday 13th May 2020. Those applying that day will have the money paid into their bank account by Monday 25th May, or within six working days of completing a claim.
