Possibility of significant new funding to improve Bristol special schools

Please see the attached a letter outlining plans to take a proposal to Cabinet next month in the hope of unlocking £28 million in funding to improve current special schools, as well as significantly increasing the number of specialist provision places in new and refurbished buildings for students with SEND.

If the proposal is successful, it would enable the LA to increase its offer of specialist provision for children and young adults with SEND and at the same time, address the suitability and condition of the current buildings used for educating pupils with SEND. All the proposals outlined in the Cabinet paper will be subject to a full consultation process. A full consultation including parent carers, and children and young people will take place in the autumn term, and there is a commitment to coproducing improvements in SEND in Bristol with parents carers and other stakeholders.
