SEND Practice Leadership Team

Bristol City Council (BCC) is dedicated to improving support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). One area of focus is understanding the needs within our community to secure more local specialist school places for children who require them.

Bristol Parent Carers are working closely with BCC to ensure local schools have the tools and resources they need to support local children. This will help schools and families work together to provide the right support, helping children and young people thrive

To further this, BCC is setting up a new SEND Practice Leadership Team. Over the next 12 months, this team will work directly with up to 12 families who want their child to move back to a local mainstream or specialist school in Bristol. The team will support families whose children are currently in independent schools, alternative learning providers, or being educated outside of a school setting. Bristol Parent Carers will partner with this team to ensure these transitions are smooth and successful for everyone involved.

We are committed to working closely with families, listening to what you need, and ensuring any changes truly benefit children and young people. Our goal is to support more children with SEND in having their needs met within their own communities, if that is the right choice for them.
