Short Breaks update

Following feedback from our At Home Participation meeting on Special Schools Short Breaks, the Short Breaks team in Bristol have organised sessions for the Easter break (7th – 9th April and 14th – 16th April) with an exciting mixture of fun activities for disabled children and young people for example sensory play, drama, arts and crafts and more, in various locations around Bristol.
The provision is designed for those with complex needs, who need higher staffing ratios.

The activities will have high staff ratios and staff will be trained to support complex needs. All venues have been risk assessed to make sure that the young people are safe and secure. Places are limited and will be given to those who are in most need of support.

WECIL – Age 13-18
WECIL are excited to be working with Traveling Light for some sessions. They create outstanding theatre for and with young people that inspire their thinking, engages their emotions and fires their imagination. We will also be dancing, gaming, chilling, doing arts and crafts and enjoying socialising with friends.
Dates: 7th & 14th April (Inns Court-Knowle) 9th & 16th April (Hillfields)

SENSEAge 5-18
Sensory play and activities for those with sensory impairments and/or health needs. Session’s will be themed and will include the sensory room, ball pool, trampoline, waterbeds, messy play, switch toys, arts and crafts, bubbles and lots more.
Dates: 6th, 7th & 9th April.
Venue: Woodside Centre, Kingswood

HOP SKIP AND JUMPAge 5 – 12
Have fully-equipped sensory rooms, a games room and a music room. they have extensive outside space, with a sports court, adventure play equipment and a selection of castles and forts! They will be running a program of activities.
Dates: 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th April.
There is also a stay and play session on 4th April so staff can meet children and families
Venue: Hop, Skip and Jump, Kingswood

  • Parents/carers will be expected to transport their child to the venue (the social work team may be able to help if this is an issue)
  • There is a contribution of £12 which is non-refundable and will need to be paid by Friday 20th March (we may be able to help if cost is an issue). Sessions are 10am—3pm.
  • They are happy to discuss needs, content of the sessions or any concerns. We can talk by phone, email or come to you in person ahead of the session.
